About Laurel

Laurel has a degree in Public Relations, specializing in event management, media relations and public speaking with a passion for suicide awareness, prevention and trauma education.  With over 9 years of education and professional experience working as a Peer Support Specialist, safeTALK Trainer and Advocate for those living with mental illness, Laurel also shares her personal experiences of suicide loss and surviving trauma.  In 2007, she founded the Halifax Walk for World Suicide Prevention Day and continues to coordinate this event today. 

A dynamic public speaker with a quirky sense of humour, Laurel is available to speak on topics including: adoption and being an adoptee (with a focus on adoption trauma and reunion issues), suicide loss, living with PTSD, her experience completing treatment at Homewood Health Centre, Compassion Fatigue and Vicarious Trauma.
